What exactly is a tweetup or Facebook meetup? Do people meet online for them, or in person? Is the social networking site in question just used to organize the meeting? I need a little clarificating on the terms here.
I’ve never been to a tweet-up. But I have read some reports of a few different ones. Mainly you just hang out and talk to everyone. I’d be up for one, but only if we got at least 50 4square users there so we could unlock the swarm badge.
For all that might be wondering, yes, you promote a Tweet or Facebook meet-up online and provide details to where everyone is going to meet at a physical location.
A lot of times, this happens at conventions or small book signings… for instance, perhaps a bunch of people have to work during a con but want to meet you… you can have an after con meet-up for dinner or something.
If anyone is going to be at the Baltimore Comic Con at the end of August, we could have a pre-con meet up Friday night before the con. See? I just made a Max vs. Max meet-up.
:-)
Oh… it also helps if you all know what each other looks like – otherwise, you all will be hanging around a particular spot not knowing if the person beside you is a fellow Meet-up person or just some dude who wants to catch the bus.
Man, I’d totally go. Unfortunately, it’s unlikely that it’d be held on Long Island.
Stupid water-locked body of land and its general difficulty in getting on or off.
But yeah. Come to Long Island! See our scenic beaches! Ride, bumper-to-bumper, in some of the worst traffic in the continental United States (I think the D.C. Beltway may have us beat, but still, it’s pretty bad)! Gaze, slack-jawed, at the womenfolk who look like they belong on Jersey Shore, or some similarly trashy program!
If you were in FL… heck yes.
Is there a RSS feed for the comics that doesn’t include the blog posts? I’m not interested in the blog posts.
Never been to one, but I’d sure come to a MvM one if I was able to.

Newman – There’s only the one RSS feed.
Jackson – You meet in person, but you organize the meeting via your social media of choice.
Columbus sounds like a great place for the tweet-up…….you can count me in.
Gabe – I’ve actually thought about Columbus. It’s a good, central location for Ohio peeps. Have you ever been to a Tweetup?
I’d be down. Virginia?
I’d be down. Baltimore/DC??
I don’t “do” public events, but if you end up in LA I’d buy you a coffee
I’d say the first one would be in Ohio.
A tweetup in Columbus would be awesome.
